In August, IDS Manufacturing, a food processing subsidiary of LF Asia based in Malaysia, secured an important 5-year contract renewal with strategic partner and long-time customer, Fisherman’s Friend. Fisherman’s Friend is a British sore throat and cough lozenges brand with a history of over 150 years. The brand name reflects the original menthol and eucalyptus tincture developed by pharmacist James Lofthouse for fishermen who braved the elements on a daily basis. Today Fisherman’s Friend lozenges are sold in more than 28 countries around the world with nearly half of the total global production managed by IDS manufacturing.
The renewal of the contract is an endorsement of the service IDS manufacturing has provided over the years. With volumes for Fisherman’s Friend increasing, particularly in Malaysia and Indonesia, IDS Manufacturing is reviewing plans to further strengthen the strategic relationship by investing in additional capacity. The commencement of a new production line is scheduled for 2019.
Tim Collins, the CEO of LF Asia joined Stephen Blackburn, the head of the IDS Manufacturing business to visit the long-time customer at their Fleetwood headquarters in northern England. “With credit to our dedicated servicing team in Malaysia, we are delighted to continue our partnership with the Lofthouse family,” said Tim. “This a great result for DCH and we will continue to prioritize the development of key partners like Fisherman’s Friends to build a foundation for future success."
